PEORIA ~ Phyllis Jean Pierson, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 5:37 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Proctor in Peoria.

Born April 29, 1930 in Peoria to Adam and Olivia (West) Hurst, she married Robert Pierson on September 25, 1948 in Peoria. He died March 2, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Tom and Leon Hurst.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie (David) Parr of Montgomery, IL and Paula (John) German of Peoria; one son, Randy Pierson of Peoria; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sister-in-law’s, Jennie Hurst of Washington, IL and Muriel Hurst of Ft. Wayne, IN and four nephews and two nieces.

Phyllis worked as a banquet waitress at the Hotel Pere Marquette for 27 years having had the honor to serve several U.S. Presidents as well as many dignitaries and celebrities.  She also dedicated many hours over the years, receiving numerous awards in recognition of her time and commitment for volunteering at the Veteran’s Administration in Peoria as well as the Bartonville American Legion, where she was a member of the Legion Auxiliary.

Her family was always her priority.  Phyllis was an avid and lifetime Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.  She enjoyed her weekly luncheons with her swimming pals and her card games with friends while living at Oakwoods Apartments and, most recently, at Bickford Senior Living, where she had resided since 2016.

Phyllis was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Peoria.  Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 19 at her church, 725 E. Forrest Hill Ave. in Peoria. The Rev. Ryan H. Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Private burial with family will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to her church or The Bob Michael Veteran’s Administration, 7717 N. Orange Prairie Road, Peoria, IL 61615 or the Bartonville American Legion, 4501 Airport Road, Bartonville, IL 61607.
